REFERENCE LIBRARY RECOMMENDATIONS
Birds of Kentucky Field Guide by Stan Tekiela When you begin to plant native plants the variety of birds will increase in addition to the migration or summer only Kentucky visitors so I have found this guide to be quite useful in bird indentification.
Bringing Nature Home: How You Can Sustain Wildlife with Native Plants by Douglas Tallamy This is much more technical but still very useful to understanding the affect non-native plants have on the health of our native pollinator population. This is one of my favorite books and I refer to it frequently.
Eastern Butterflies by Paul A. Opler/Vichai Malikul When you begin to plant native plants the variety of butterflies will increase so I have found this field guide to be useful in butterfly identification.
The Resilient Gardener by Carol Deppe
Trees & Shrubs of Kentucky by Mary E. Wharton & Roger W. Barbour This is a great resource for the identification of trees and shrubs I have located on my property in addition to a research source for additional purchases.
